Pattern of need developed from readings around McClellands human motivation theory. Accordingly there are four main motivators which are approval, achievement, affiliation and power. Each person has strengths of varying amounts of each motivator. I developed the pattern by using overlapping circles to represent each of the four motivators. This was then used as a template to create an algorithmic solution for combinations of each different motivator. I seen this as representing differing types of people, and decision making. The 64 different parts are arranged using a binary sequence though this is variable which gives the pattern a huge level of variability. I seen the pattern's variability as ensuring each single print would be unique just like we all are.  The sculpture represented the pattern in three dimensions which explored themes of, chance and probability.
